PHOTOS FOR US

A Mother and Daughter live on opposite sides of the earth. Both will celebrate a milestone age in their life during 2010. This blog will be their story for the next year, photographs of what they see, feel, love or hate.

These are their lives...

Friday 30 July 2010

A family heir loom that has lived with me most of my married life. We move house...first question, where shall we put the clock?

Thursday 29 July 2010

The Globe theatre, one of my favourite places. Today a marathon, Henry IV part 1 this afternoon then Henry IV part 2 this evening. 6 hrs of the most wonderful theatre. Falstaff was amazingly memorable and Prince Hal fantastic!

Wednesday 28 July 2010

Today I said 'Goodbye' to my little car.

Tuesday 27 July 2010

Went to see a friend in hosptial tonight and had to pass through Baker Steet station. A curious place. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the BBC for the new EXCELLENT series Sherlock Holmes. There is a statue of Sherlock outside the station, it was too awful to photograph.

Monday 26 July 2010

The first rose in our garden this year. This is the rose that would have been growing in Andrea's garden by now.....had she not moved to Australia.

Sunday 25 July 2010

The river Stour at Manningtree on a lovely sunny Sunday afternoon

Saturday 24 July 2010

My new hat was in the bag!

Friday 23 July 2010

What's in the bag?

Thursday 22 July 2010

Chris's shed. In the words of that most Australian bloke John Williamson 'All Australian boys need a shed'. Chris is not Australian but that hasn't impeded his vision of what a shed should be.

Wednesday 21 July 2010

Southwark Cathedral. Small but perfectly formed.

Tuesday 20 July 2010

Borough Market, London SE1. Home to very nice but overpriced gourmet food. Also filmset for commercials, pop videos and films. Bridget Jones walked this way. A quiet day today, Friday and Saturday it heaves.

Monday 19 July 2010

Just before I went to work this morning I saw these in the garden, they were not there yesterday and when I got home tonight they had all but gone.

Sunday 18 July 2010

We are having a plague of grass hoppers. They are outside, inside, in shoes, up walls. Cute.

Saturday 17 July 2010

When it all kicks off outside .....you stick together on the back doorstep.

Friday 16 July 2010

Journey home on the train tonight. The only way to travel.

Thursday 15 July 2010

The Shard. London Bridge station. This is going to be one of the tallest buildings in Europe and will look like a shard of glass. It is growing so fast. They are already putting the glass windows in at the bottom of the building. The smaller tower next to it is Guys hospital. As you can see by the sky, summer has ended!

Wednesday 14 July 2010

Another thing I love.....London Buses.....not a great picture but this is the only time this year I am going to risk my life taking a picture of one!

Tuesday 13 July 2010

Is it an age thing that I like lavender?

Monday 12 July 2010

It hasn't really rained for several weeks but when I looked out of the window this morning this is what greeted me. The garden is truly grateful.

Sunday 11 July 2010

Look at the cherries on this tree. We only planted it last year. Took this picture before I ate them all!

Saturday 10 July 2010

Our local County show today. Took so many pictures but I thought this one of an endangered breed of horse was good. These are Suffolk Punches. In the 1900's there were over 300,000 of them working the land. Now there are only 450 alive.

Friday 9 July 2010

Now this is bonkers! These are some gates near where I work. The land beyond the gates is concreted and occasionally used as a car park. Underneath the concrete is supposed to be a burial pit that was used for the dead from the Plague and for prostitutes that frequented the Globe theatre (which isn't far away) in the 17th century. Some local 'historian' has set this up as a shrine to the prostitutes and all sorts of tat is tied to the gate. Bits of ribbon with names on, Christmas decorations, plastic flowers and at night sometimes candles are lit. Its now on the tourist trail! In the background you can see the Shard which is going to be the tallest building in Europe.....when it is finished.

Thursday 8 July 2010

My workstation and all the things that surround it. They all mean something to me and remind me of my family, friends and home.

Wednesday 7 July 2010

London on full visible alert today, the fifth anniversary of the 7/7 bombings. So here's to all the Rescue Services, the Doctors and Nurses who dealt with the injured, the passers by that helped and most importantly the People who lost their lives or were injured on that terrible Thursday. It was an odd day for those of us working in London, first a report, around 9 a.m. of a train crash at Aldgate and then as the next hour unfolded it was obvious that bombs had gone off at various places all over London. The police told everyone to stay at work as transport systems stopped but by 3 p.m. there was a slow trail of everyone walking, mainly in silence, to their mainline stations. We were then filtered into the station, every so often someone being stopped and searched. It took me several hours to get home that day and the next day London was closed. I have been in London on several occasions when bombs have gone off, but you carry on with your life and roll the dice once more!

Tuesday 6 July 2010

Gus at bedtime, his main aim is to occupy the maximum amount of bed before anyone else gets in it. Usually after negotiation he has the bottom half of the bed! His lack of tail (car accident) has not affected his gentle nature or sense of humour.

Monday 5 July 2010

This angel is in the garden of the Royal Foundation of St Katherine at Limehouse in London. I think this is one of the most expressive angels I have ever seen!

Sunday 4 July 2010

Is this an odd cloud formation...or what?

Saturday 3 July 2010

I was wandering around the garden today, when a small bumble bee landed on this cornflower. I love bumble bees.

Friday 2 July 2010

The 2012 Olympic Stadium at Stratford, just outside London. Nearly completed. I took this from the train as I go this way every day and have watched it being built. I really hope the 2012 Olympics go well and it shuts up all those people who didn't want Britain to host the games.

Thursday 1 July 2010

Liverpool Street station at 8.30 in the morning. I should have been at work by this time but I stopped at the station to have breakfast with some friends as it was one of their birthdays. Some things are more important than work!
