PHOTOS FOR US

A Mother and Daughter live on opposite sides of the earth. Both will celebrate a milestone age in their life during 2010. This blog will be their story for the next year, photographs of what they see, feel, love or hate.

These are their lives...

Monday 31 January 2011

My boss has let me have this old petty cash tin, as I have a 'thing' about boxes! What little treasures can I hide in here ???

My 'boss' (like I have one!) is retirng, this was the 'reception' held in the Gary Weston library of Southwark Cathedral following a service in the Cathedral. A surprisingly lovely evening.

Sunday 30 January 2011

We went to the cricket today to see the One Day International between England and Australia. Australia won - and even to my amateur eyes - they deserved it. Very entertaining and a very long day.

One of our Blue Tit nesting boxes, its this time of year when these tiny birds start 'looking' to find a good home to raise their young. This box has had two previous successful broods.

Saturday 29 January 2011

We went to Brisbane Botanic Gardens today. It was a bit windy, but a lovely way to spend the morning.

Heather and I went shopping today, got some bonkers earrings in the sale!

Friday 28 January 2011

My bum print!

Million Pound Drop - I love this programme. Hosted by one of the best presenters (in my opinion) on TV the wonderful Davina Mccall.

Thursday 27 January 2011

I forgot my camera today and then couldn't decide what to take a picture of.... so I took a picture of an apple scented candle. It smells lovely.

Another day and another orchid has started to flower.

Wednesday 26 January 2011

The holiday seemed so long ago now. I've always kept all the random bits of paper and tickets collected on holidays - hence I have boxes of the stuff. Not sure what I will ever do with it - but it's nice to have.

Liverpool Street station, London, the AA (Automobile Association) have gone into plumbing emergencies, these three were advertising that, but happily took time out to pose for this photo!

Tuesday 25 January 2011

The lighter way to enjoy chocolate!

These pretty cottages face Redcross gardens (21 October 2010). The garden and cottages were established by Octavia Hill. Amazing woman in her time, look her up!

Monday 24 January 2011

Look at this sunshine coast sky. Taken at 5:30am !

OK I admit it, I am obsessed by Gus's paws. His dusters!......someone, who has never had cats, suggested that I cut the fur in between his pads to cut down on the amount of mud he brings in!

Sunday 23 January 2011

We went horse riding today. It rained as soon as we got to the beach - but the horses liked it. Mine was called Banjo (not pictured here) and the man rode Robbie (pictured left). Brilliant day and something we will definately repeat.

This is what a telegraph pole looks like when it is hit by a car. Another accident in our 'lane'. What is the matter with people!

Saturday 22 January 2011

Pear Cider. A refreshing drink that was gifted me following my bad day at work on Thursday.

Fab dancing, fab frocks! What a nice way to spend a January afternoon.

Friday 21 January 2011

A good friend of mine gave me these sunnies a while back now. And the man and I spent the weekend with another good friend on the sunny coast. This is the view from his apartment.

Well we did have salad!

Thursday 20 January 2011

I had a horrendous morning at work today, because, unfortunately, I work for some really horrid people. I came home early feeling sorry for myself to be greeted by my favourite plant looking like she's dying. I think it's the freak weather we have been having... too much heat and water. I had some wine to cheer me up - but thought giving the plant some might not have the same effect.

I had a plant like this once before at Uni. I dropped something on it and it went into shock causing it's leaves to all fall off. I took it home and gave it (twig in mud) to mum... she has green fingers... and I will let her show you the rest....

Reckon I could post this one back to the UK to get fixed as well ?

10 years on!

Wednesday 19 January 2011

I was messing around trying to take a nighttime shot and took this of myself being silly. Rather than silly though I think I look like I'm turning into a vampire or maybe a werewolf !!

The 'milk' cupboard at work.......looks like we bathe in the stuff!

Tuesday 18 January 2011

A present from Mum arrived this evening. I watched the ending first as recommended... it made me go all goose pimply. Michael Ball bless him.

Not toys, just flying over our house this afternoon.

Monday 17 January 2011

As I've said before... I love to read and I read a lot. I'm just about to finish this little trilogy from the local library. A bit of a random story about a demon, a rock and 6 people, but very addictive reading.

Look at the lovely animals that have arrived on my desk - a calender that has been much admired!

Sunday 16 January 2011

Our house guest bought me flowers. Gerberas are my favourite.

Long shadows in the winter, tried a second attempt to remove the fence post on the left but the sun went in! I love shadow pics.....

Saturday 15 January 2011

I was trying to take a picture of the flower and the bud... but instead i got a picture of the mud. I thought I should post this considering Brisbane is thick with the stuff as the floods go down.

The Royal Albert Hall ground floor corridor, amazing building! Tonight Cirque du Soleil, Totem. No pics allowed of the performance.

Friday 14 January 2011

I hate ants. We use ant rid on them which they love.... mwah mwah mwahahahaha.....

Another orchid getting ready to flower, it's amazing such ugly plants produce such beautiful flowers.

Thursday 13 January 2011

What's Indian about Tonic Water ?

Look carefully and you can see Holly sitting on the window sill waiting to be let in.

Wednesday 12 January 2011

Keeping with the nature theme this week these little guys love our new yellow light bulbs. They keep the moths and large bugs away... but the little bugs love em and so we're getting these smaller gekkos visiting.

As Holly and Gus now have their own blog they have not featured here much recently but tonight Gus was all fluffy as he came in soaked from the rain. I told him to be thankful he was not one of the poor animals in the rains of Brisbane.

Tuesday 11 January 2011

I love these guys. I will never ever tire of hearing them laugh.

Meeting at work today, a college drew this doodle, he turned it into a sort of war sketch but he drew the sinking ship first. LOL

Monday 10 January 2011

A very pretty moth (but big - about 2 inches) sheltering from the rain in the car park at work. He would have been invisible on tree bark.

Spot the theatre, Southwark Playhouse, between the Shipwrights Arms and the Railway offices (now part of a museum) is an alley leading to a theatre underneath railway arches. I will let you know the outcome on the 18th Feb!

Sunday 9 January 2011

A Water Dragon... sun-bathing in the rain. I guess that's what Water Dragons do.

I love burning scented candles. Got this one as a Christmas present. Thanks Heather & Robbie!

Saturday 8 January 2011

Hello little stick insect. How's your day been? We bought some very nice new red wine glasses today, and had a good spend up in the sales. Why is it that everything you end up buying isn't on the sale rail though? We also looked at some new houses as we're thinking of moving, and saw an awful lot of pigeons congregating over one house... bet you're glad you weren't there! Sorry we'd eaten all the hickory smoked spare ribs and roast veg before you arrived, but it was a pleasure sharing our evening with you. It was a shame we had to go home so early - but Midsommer Murders was on... and you know how much we love that show. We hope the Geckos didn't eat you. Come and visit again soon if you're in the neighbourhood.

This is what was left over after the police towed the car away that had driven along our ditch and destroyed quite a bit of our hedge!

Friday 7 January 2011

Miss RR has been baking for Christmas! They're her mum's recipe and are sweet but not over the top. They won't last long! Thanks Miss RR. You're fab x

Not the best of pictures but this puddle shows the splashes of rain......it was raining so hard and has been raining all day!
